Legend & History

Rosé wines by vocation,

Provence for its terroir,

The Cicada as an emblem,

A history that begins with a Legend…

“It is said that Cicadas were men before the birth of the Muses, and when the Muses were born and song appeared, some of the men were so overcome with delight that they sang and sang, forgetting food and drink, until at last, unconsciously, they died. From them, the Cicadas were born.” - Plato

The awakening of the cicada

The nymph begins its life underground, where it is protected from the winter cold. It is nourished by roots to grow and develop. It takes between a few months and several years for the cicada to surface, and when that day comes, it finally emerges into the light of day.

The cicada takes flight

Its perfectly geometrical wings allow it to soar into the summer sunlight. The males begin to sing their hypnotic, rhythmic song, known as tymbaling, to attract a mate. Their song is a celebration of summer!

Mont des Cigales

Mont des Cigales is a protected area in Provence for the preservation of biodiversity and is a paradise for cicadas. That is why Moncigale originates in this area, a haven in which you can hear the metallic sound of their song.
