Our terroirs

We select the finest plots for our rosé terroir wines

VILLA MONCIGALE offers an impressive collection of rosé terroir wines from the vineyards around the Sainte-Victoire mountain. At an altitude of 1011 m, the climate is cooler than along Provence’s coast. The vines thrive in calcareous clay soils into which they plunge their roots deep down to get the nutrients they need to yield grapes bursting with rich, concentrated juice that gives the wine its structure and fresh aromas and flavours.

In order to create these delicate rosés, great care is taken beginning with the harvest. The grapes are picked at night so as to preserve their freshness. Our approach to vinification revolves around the “number 7”, which is both the ideal temperature for gentle vinification, to obtain a subtle, pale pink colour, as well as the optimal number of days of cuvaison to obtain crisp, expressive cuvées, boasting delicate aromas and flavours.

COTEAUX D’AIX-EN-PROVENCE

Crisp - Structured

The soil is composed of calcareous clay. Some of the vines are planted on terraces at an average altitude of 200 m. The vines dig their roots deep down into the soil to obtain the nutrients they need. Here, the climate is cool for the region, with nocturnal temperature differences of between 10°C and 15°C, which allows the grapes to maintain a perfect balance between sugar and acidity.

CÔTES-DE-PROVENCE

Flavourful - Finesse

The selected plots are located in the northern and western parts of the appellation, in the hinterland, very close to the Sainte-Victoire Mountain. The vines grow in clayey red and white limestone soils dating back to the Cretaceous period. Here, the Mistral wind is a blessing. The vines are constantly aerated and the circulating air eliminates dampness to ensure the good health of the vines.

CÔTES-DE-PROVENCE SAINTE-VICTOIRE

Lively - Crisp

Our selected plots are located at the foot of the Sainte-Victoire Mountain within an amphitheatre that opens to the west and is bordered to the north by the mountain. It extends to the east over the wooded hills of Pourrières and Pourcieux, and is bordered to the south by the small Étoile and Olympe mountain ranges. This ideal setting benefits from deep soil and a continental climate, as Mount Aurélien and the Sainte-Baume mountain range protect the area from the regulating influences of the Mediterranean Sea. On the Triassic plateaus around the Sainte-Victoire Mountain, the vines plunge their vines deep into the limestone and clayey sandstone-based soils in order to get the nutrients they need and produce grapes whose juice lends structure along with rich aromas and flavours to the wine.
